The Gunners' boss feels assured that his side can persist in handling with injury setbacks after disclosing that attacker Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.
Prolonged Recovery for German Star
The German forward has been sidelined since August due to knee surgery. Initially expected to return earlier in December, Arteta explained the player hit a snag when advancing his recovery and was unable to move forward “the required stage.”
“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a group that is far more dependable and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.
Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture
This update presents a selection headache for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between persisting with Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly from a muscle injury as a substitute. The manager is convinced the substantial investment on new players in the last transfer window has left Arsenal in a far better place to handle such unavailability.

When asked if a larger pool of players was helping their title quest, his response was positive. “Indeed, as this campaign has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now the situation with the backline,” he added.
“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in various roles, and they must be capable to fulfil different roles if we want to compete at the highest level. And the case of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Addressing the complication noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the required step and now it appears like we have unlocked that.”
He shared his eagerness to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. Truly, Havertz is someone that, in my view, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I observe his frustration being outside.”
